Spindle is an online literary magazine with a twist, featuring creative non-fiction, poetry and short fiction by, for and about New Yorkers -- literal and spiritual. Showcasing emerging writers, artists, musicians and other notable New Yorkers, it offers a multi-faceted look at New York City and the world beyond through the eyes of both those who love it and hate it, and in many cases, a peek inside the minds of the people themselves.

Like New York City, Spindle is best experienced with an open mind and a healthy dose of intellectual curiosity. There are no tour guides here, so readers are encouraged to take their time and casually explore the site, whether a section at a time, via the "related article" links, or by doing a keyword search.

Thanks for reading!

Karin Gallet: Drafting Bloomberg PDF Print E-mail

If Mayor Bloomberg were to run for President, which organization would spend the most money attempting to defeat him: DNC, RNC, NRA, PBA, or Al-Qaeda?

Gallet: Probably all the above. Although I will say that, as someone who grew up in the Midwest in a hunting family (I have a freezer full of buffalo and elk steaks at the moment), his anti-gun stance has been somewhat misconstrued. Mayor Bloomberg talks primarily about illegal guns in the city, not legally obtained hunting weapons. He says no one needs a gun in the city, and he’s right.

From a personal perspective, why would Mayor Bloomberg make a good President?

Gallet: He’s done amazing work for us in New York City. Not everyone agrees with him, but it’s difficult for anyone to say the city isn’t better off under Bloomberg. It’s only fair to share him with the rest of the Country.

If he doesn’t run, whom would you support?

Gallet: I can’t even imagine at this point. Unless there’s a positive alternative to what’s in the field so far, I will be heading to the polls with a queasy stomach.

What’s something interesting Shawnee Mission has that NYC doesn’t but should?

Gallet: Well, Shawnee Mission is right next door to Kansas City, so I would have to say that Shawnee has Old Pioneer Town, creeks full of crawdads, and just about everything a kid could want growing up. Kansas City, on the other hand is quite sophisticated with elegant shopping, world class restaurants, and a historic World War I monument shaped like a giant phallus.

Karin Gallet lives in the Flatiron District and is currently working on her MBA at Fordham University. The Committee to Draft Mike Bloomberg for President 2008 meets every Tuesday at 7PM in the Upstairs Dining Room of OLD TOWN BAR, 45 East 18th Street in Manhattan. Bloomberg is Nasty

Well, I am going to be the voice of dissent.

Even though I am educated, have been published in over 70 literary journals, was nominated for the Pushcart Prize twice, won the Glass Woman Prize for Non-fiction and have two poetry books out, I could not get a job. ANY JOB.

I became homeless, having NO family to turn to. What Bloomberg did when I complained about homeless shelters is despicable. He had a flunkie from the Dept. of Homeless Services write a letter saying I was LYING.

He is scum. I'd leave the country if he were president.
