Spindle is an online literary magazine with a twist, featuring creative non-fiction, poetry and short fiction by, for and about New Yorkers -- literal and spiritual. Showcasing emerging writers, artists, musicians and other notable New Yorkers, it offers a multi-faceted look at New York City and the world beyond through the eyes of both those who love it and hate it, and in many cases, a peek inside the minds of the people themselves.

Like New York City, Spindle is best experienced with an open mind and a healthy dose of intellectual curiosity. There are no tour guides here, so readers are encouraged to take their time and casually explore the site, whether a section at a time, via the "related article" links, or by doing a keyword search.

Thanks for reading!

2007 Pushcart Prize Nominees PDF Print E-mail

By Guy LeCharles Gonzalez,

Spindle is proud to announce its nominees for the 2007 Pushcart Prize, as selected by Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Guy LeCharles Gonzalez:

The Pushcart Prize - Best of the Small Presses series, published every year since 1976, is the most honored literary project in America. Hundreds of presses and thousands of writers of short stories, poetry and essays have been represented in the pages of their annual collections.

Writers who were first noticed there include: Raymond Carver, Tim O’Brien, Jayne Anne Phillips, Charles Baxter, Andre Dubus, Susan Minot, Mona Simpson, John Irving, Philip Lopate, Philip Levine, and many more. Each year most of the writers and many of the presses are new to the series.

Congratulations to our nominees and a sincere thank you to all of our contributors who have graced our digital pages with their work during our first few months of publication, and to our readers who make it all worth the effort.
